Extending Time to Edit Comments
NewsTalkers has a 10 minute grace period for updating a posted comment. This is to ensure we can correct mistakes we did not notice until we saw the comment in its final form. However, sometimes we notice a problem (e.g. an embarrassing spelling error) after the grace period expired with no way to fix it.
There is now an editing function which covers this situation. For an additional 50 minutes we can edit a comment to correct mistakes. Each edit is logged for everyone to see (at their option); this mitigates abusing this capability to change a position after a rebuttal.
A comment may be edited up to five times during these 50 minutes. After that (or when the 50 minutes have elapsed), the comment is frozen.
You can easily see if a comment has been edited. Every edited comment will have an edited button that will toggle the display of the edits for the comment. The edited button appears to the right of the REPLY button and looks like this:

Fetch Function
Fetch is a tool that automatically acquires content given a URL. It contends with inconsistent (and errant) data but in most cases Fetch will save the seeder a lot of copy & paste effort.
When creating a new seed, click on the Fetch Seed button in the upper right hand corner, enter your URL and then edit the contents acquired by Fetch to suit your needs.
For further details, consult: Guide to Fetch

Comment Panels
Preceding the comments section in an article, you will find a set of buttons. These buttons provide more control over tracked comments, finding text in comments, bookmarking comments and managing threads.
Click on a button to disclose its panel and the associated features.
For more details see: Guide to Comment Panels .
-
Enhanced Threads
Each article now has a thread panel:
Collapsing reduces the workload of the browser and can dramatically speed up loading. Expanding is for the rare case when you need to browse through the comments. Automate tells the system to automatically collapse select threads to balance load performance with accessibility to the most timely comments.
At times, low level threads can go hundreds of comments long ( e.g. 3.2. 153 ). The system will now automatically suppress older (stale) comments in long threads to improve performance. When suppressed, you will see a new symbol: which ( in this case ) states that 11 comments in this thread are suppressed. Click the button to disclose the comments.
For details, see the article: Guide to Threads .

Site-wide Ignore
The ignore function has been replaced with a site-wide version. If you wish to ignore another member, click on the member's avatar in any comment and select the Ignore option. The member's comments — in every article — will be faded and the content will not be visible to you.
If you have ignored any members, you will find a new menu item under your name (far right menu item) labeled Ignored Members . This lists the members you are ignoring and gives you the option to unIgnore.
All article-specific ignores are now obsolete. So, in effect, ignores start from scratch. But once placed they will apply to all articles until you remove them.

Seed Fields for Articles
When creating seeds it is now possible to give credit to the original author (labeled ' seed author ') and to distinguish your content (as the seeder) from the content of the seed itself.
Paste the seed content into the field labeled ' seed content '. Place any of your own comments in the field labeled ' your content '. When displayed, the original author will get credit (important for the site) and your content will be distinct from the content you copied from the seed.
This helps NewsTalkers avoid claims of copyright infringement and keeps it in good standing with search engines such as Google.
